Because of the continued illness of his aunt, Mr. Wiest has not been able to attend many shows during the past year. Nevertheless, three home-bred dogs have completed their championships.
These are Ch Hyperion the Minx, Ch Hyperion Humoresque and Ch Hyperion Atavismus. Ch Hyperion the MInx won a good any variety Toy group at the Fort Wayne, Indiana, show early in the year, and Ch Hyperion Sensation won an extremely strong any variety Toy group at Louisville, Kentucky, all-breed show in April. It is interesting to note that the Pug which was placed 2nd and the Pom which was 3rd had previously won best in show, all breeds, and the Chihuahua which was placed 4th had won many any variety Toy groups. The judge was the well-known all-rounder, Mr Alfred Mitchell.
Mr. Wiest has judged three times in the past year, and has been gratified by good entries. He particularly wants to point out that he does nost just show under judges who are approved by the American Griffon Association, but feels that anyone who is approved by the American Kennel Club is fully qualified to pass judgement on his dogs. Hence he shows when and wherever it is convenient, and he greatly enjoys exhibiting under judges whom he has not met previously.
It will be remembered that last year Mr. Wiest was interested in obtaining several bitches from England which had good, natural ears, so that by mating these bitches to Ch Hyperion Atavismus, the first smooth champion with uncropped ears for many years, he could establish a strain which would breed good ears which would not have to be cropped, as he is strongly against ear cropping.
Happily he has been fortunate in obtaining Litahni Petite and Ruskington Hyacinthe, which have excellent ears and are well-balanced bitches of a medium size. He is very much looking forward to the arrival of the well-known show and brood bitch Lalarookh Flame, which is another bitch of rare quality and type. Several promising pups have also been ordered.
A red Rough bitch and a black Rough dog have been retained from this year´s litters, and Mr. Wiest feels that they are worthy examples of the breed to carry on the great Hyperion tradition for balance and soundness.
Mr. Wiest invites correspondence from British breeders and extends Christmas greetings to all dog fanciers.
