For a number of years it has been my privilege and pleasure to review the Lalarookh Miniature Griffon Kennel of Mrs. Bridle and each time I have done so I have come to the conclusion that the last word has been said about the merit of the inmates from the point of view of both breed and obedience standard. Yet each succeeding year there is always something new to mention, and I am forced to the conclusion that the pinnacle has not yet been reached, and that, like Tennyson’s brook, the Lalarookhs will go on for ever. This is an unique kennel from all angles. It is the only kennel of Miniature-bred Griffons in the world, and it is the classic example that beauty and brains can be bred into both sexes in any breed. The wonderful position-with its world wide reputation- that the kennel enjoys is the result of patient effort, almost akin to genius, which Mrs. Bridle has displayed in her breeding operations, careful line-breeding, and importing to acquire the correct blood-lines to retain the correct type and, at the same time, to keep the intelligence of her strain at the highest level. This has been materially assisted by the fact that Mrs. Bridle recognizes that the dog are social animals and all are kept in the house. Their unrivalled reputation has been further demonstrated during 1952, and these tiny dogs have taken their place with honours at open obedience tests at many of the leading, in addition to their wins at the champion-ship shows. To such a degree of perfection has Mrs. Bridle trained these tiny tots that they are now able to compete in advanced obedience classes among all breeds. As can be seen from the photographs, the standard of these Miniatures has been maintained as near the ideal as possible; nothing has been sacrificed of true Griffon type. Lalarookh Blak Fury is the smallest stud dog in the breed he weighs three pounds- and he is proving himself a sire of outstanding merit. Lalarookh Mutty is a beautiful red Smooth dog. Best Smooth dog at the Griffon Club show this year, he excels in soundness and brains. Though he has been in training only six months, he has won many 1st prizes in competition with the large breeds. Lalarookh Carina has won many 1 st prizes in obedience tests, and was best smooth bitch at the Griffon Club show. There are a number of other very lovely Miniatures and stock of various ages in the kennel. Nevertheless, the demand for these wonderful little dogs far exceeds supply. So would be purchasers will be wise to book their orders well in advance to avoid disappointment. The popularity of the kennel in South America is such that this year alone Mrs. Bridle has exported three to Argentina. Published in: "Dog World Annual" UK 1953 |
